The Future Jobs Fund Team

March 17, 2010

The Future Jobs Fund team!

We caught up with the Future Jobs Fund team, working hard improving their local neighbourhood’s environment!

Future Jobs is about working with unemployed people, getting them onto work programmes and training schemes, while mentoring them back to employability and teaching them life skills.

These young people will be part of the scheme for 6 months, but they aren’t the only people to benefit from Future Jobs: The programme has been developed with intention of working with all ages and backgrounds, and referrals come from The Job Centre and Connexions.

Anyone who would like further details, or would like to get involved, please contact your local job centre or Connexions branch.

Live blog of CommUNITY Dialogue feedback event

June 29, 2009

Below you can see the live blog of the CommUNITY Dialogue feedback event that took place on Saturday 27th June 2009. Speakers included Cllr Mahmood Hussein, Perry Barr Constituency Chair, and Stephen Hughes, Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council.
Members of the public were in attendance to hear about how their vision for Handsworth and Lozells is being taken forward, and to engage in the ongoing dialogue process.
45 people viewed the live blog on the day and there were also two twitter tags that people could follow the events through — #handsworth and #h&lcomm.
I can see that people are still visiting the site, so please comment on the blog posts! Alternatively, you can visit handsworthlozellscommunity.co.uk/forum to discuss it on the CommUNITY forum.

First session

June 27, 2009

Cllr Mahmood Hussein kicked off the session, welcoming Stephen Hughes’ commitment to the local area and advocating the opening of a community centre.

Carol Coombes then introduced the report and began outlining the major outcomes.

Carol then handed over to Patrick Loftman and Prof Alan Middleton, both from Birmingham City University, who gave more detail on the report that they authored on behalf of Birmingham City Council and the CommUNITY Dialogue programme.

I join you as Prof Middleton is talking about employment prospects for the area. Follow the event on Twitter by searching for #h&lcomm or #handsworth!

Prof Middleton is talking about a possible replacement for the Muhammad Ali centre — an iconic building, celebrating song and dance, multicultural and aimed to bring young people from different backgrounds together.
